I just finished Gilead--what an amazing book! Another slow, reflective read. I highly recommend it.

Starting
The Sparrow, which I think will be a fairly fast read.

Yeah, I keep a bunch of books in a drawer by my bed.

A treasure drawer! :)

Have never heard of keeping books in a drawer by the bed, but it's actually a much better idea than keeping on the nightstand, where countless ones have ended up soaked after knocking off the glass of water in my sleep.

I don't have a nightstand, so this has to do. there is a little shelf in the drawer, and every once in a while I'll knock my water glass off it and into the books.

Security is having a stash of good books to read.
"The Sparrow" still clings with me and usually I find 90% of the books I read forgettable. That includes prize winners and literary ladeedahs and best sellers.
Perhaps I have limited brain hard drive storage.

or maybe the oter 90% just aren't worth remembering. I have the same experience.

I read THE SPARROW during my year in Sacramento. I really enjoyed that read. I think that I should read it again and then read CHILDREN OF GOD the sequel.

The Sparrow was a memorable read. You may find you're reading it more slowly than you expected.

Everybody tells me that.

You were right about The Sparrow. I just now finished it. The story was much more complex and thought-provoking than I first thought.

I have the Essential Rumi somewhere close at hand. Also nearby are things like Gitanjali by Rabindranath Tagore and God is Alive by Leonard Cohen.

Somewhere, I have a photo of Chevy trying to get me to play ball instead of reading Rumi, but I can't find it right now.
