nine things

in watermelon sugar the deeds were
done and done again as my life is
done in watermelon sugar.

I prefer rhinos to hippos hands down. And pigs are cool if they can fly.
As for Poor Richard, in Watermelon Sugar is clearly my personal favorite though it is probably not his best work. As a serious writer, I find his body of work a bit sideways. His poetry never made the cut very often, and his best books were really a kind of poetry....like the surrealism of Watermelon Sugar, and they appear more brilliant as time goes by.

His writing was uneven and unusual, but it was unique, and that is why I think I like it.

Easily one of the most "gentle" writers I've ever read.

I collected all of his works from used book stores. Very fitting, I felt.

Oh yes--all my copies of his books are used. I still have his obituary tucked into an old, fallingg-apart, copy of Trout fishing in America.
