one banana, two banana...

I spent about an hour at the coffee shop across from the college this morning, reading The Time Traveler's Wife as I waited for class to begin. I was reading a part about Clare's mom, and there was an absolutely beautiful paragraph that describes what she sees as she sits with her mom and gazes out the window. (Clare is 27).

I look up from the book and consider my own reality. (Mike is 49 and 32)

It feels like autumn.
It is slightly cool and there is a soft breeze blowing yellow and red leaves across the grass.
It makes me happy--autumn is my favorite time of year.

As I walked past a bench on my way to class, I saw a banana.
It had nothing to do with autumn, but it looked like it would make a good picture.
I was reminded of something from a long time ago.

According to John Donne, in heaven it is always autumn, because God's mercy is always ripe.

Butin keeping with the title, shouldn't the music be Velvet Underground? :-)

I saw him in concert many years ago. He surprised me for a couple of reasons. The first was because I had always thought he was black, and he turned out to be a white guy in a lumberjack shirt. The second is that he took his shoes off before he started playing.

That is one of the most beautifully written books I've read in years. I am glad you are enjoying it.

Oh yes--that is what I keep thinking. It goes beyond the story--even the writing that doesn't support the plot is so beautiful.

Autumn is my favorite time of year too- it's one of thr things I miss the most about living on the Gulf coast. Something about the crisp afternoons with the leaves turning colors always make me feel good inside.

Yes--it was always the time my wife and I would travel to coincide with our anniversary on october 2. The weather was always perfect, whether it was raining or shining. Since I am teaching this fall, I will miss traveling around and taking in the fall.

i have a new anne coulter book laying on the kitchen counter. IT arrived today. it is waiting to engage and inflame me. i felt the necessity to actually read her writing, beyond the blurbs, in order to... and...

1. embrace and re-afirm my inner liberal
2. articulate my disdain within a reasonable realm sans profanity
3. because she pisses me off enough to be interested
4. it is cold here now, and i need some fire
