I have been in Cambodia for about the last 5 days. I am in Phnom Penh now, but spent most of the time in Siem Reap, which is where the big temples are. We spent most of the time out climbing around and shooting, so I haven't even begun to look at most of my pictures from there, except for a few.

I'm not too good at shooting temples anyway, so it might be all junk. I am going back to Siem Reap for a few days tomorrow, so I might get a second chance at some of the places.

In any case, the temples are impressive. We visited about 5 or 6 of them. Some of them were very crowded with tourists, but we had one of the more remote temples almost to ourselves. It was pretty cool climbing around up there. No Lara Croft, though.

We went to a place called Tuol Sleng yesterday. It is a genocide museum here in PP. It is hard to describe. I will write more about it later.

The rest of my group left this morning, so I am on my own. I am going to explore Phnom Penh today with the help of my new guide friend. I have to buy a new travel bag, as mine has split at the seams. I will catch the bus to Siem Reap in the morning.

sadgirl

I will write more about this girl in another post.

Also, I always meant to ask, and maybe you've mentioned it before - what kind of camera do you use?

Mike, you have a gift for bringing something out in people you capture with your portraits. They are also photographically beautiful. Great shots.

Man. I.... wow. So amazing.

Are you SURE you don't have a 4x5" view camera in your bag?

That last image is every bit as powerful as the famous image on the cover to National Geographic of the middle eastern woman.

Wow. Just wow.

...

Phew !!

The contrast of these faces is so powerful and moving...am curious about the 'sad girl', but am interested in the nun's story as well...how does one live a life time and end up at the other end with such a spark, with such joy and apparent contentment in tact? To capture such a contrast is quite a gift. Thank you for continuing to share it here.
Stay safe ~A
