The water company folks came back this morning to look for the leak under our lawn. Unfortunately, it seems to be nowhere near the meter, meaning that they won't fix it.

I called a plumber. I had always heard that plumbers were expensive, and I knew they made more than nurses, but I wasn't sure how much more.

Now I know how much more. Much much more.

$47.50 for the first fifteen minutes, and $35 for every fifteen minutes thereafter.
Multiply that by, "I'm not sure where this thing is, I'm gonna have to do some serious digging."

Oh boy.

My plumber friend came to the door to tell me that he had found and fixed the leak. He wanted to show me that it was fixed, and when he turned on the water, the new connection blew apart. I grimaced slightly and displayed no other signs of emotion. He said a bad word and turned off the water.

Fortunately, it was an easy fix. He tells me that the pipe wasn't broken after all. It came apart at a connection that had never been sealed. He suggests I contact the builder and ask them to pay for this. It sounds like a good idea.

I know very little about some of the people on my friends' list. Some people I know relatively well. Some of you I hardly know at all. Perhaps you lurk, for whatever reason. But you friended me and I thank you.

But here's a thought: why not take this opportunity to tell me a little something about yourself. Any old thing at all. Just so the next time I see your name I can say: "Ah, there's so and so...she likes spinach."

I'd love it if every single person who friended me would do this. Yes, even you people who I know really well. Then post this in your own journal, if you feel like it.
