51778--five days later
Jun. 10th, 2014 08:40 pm
I've had the flu for the past 5 days, even though I got my flu shot and it isn't flu season. Lucky me. I got sick at work Friday and had to come home. Pretty much slept for the next few days. Malida was a good nurse to me. She made me soup and gave me tepid baths. After 3+ days of fevers and progressive shortness of breath, I finally went to the doctor yesterday. Apparently the flu triggered some sort of restrictive airway disease. My oxygen level was low and I was pretty wheezy. She gave me a breathing treatment and sent me home with steroids and an inhaler.
I feel a lot better today--it's nice to be able to breathe. It's amazing how much better I can breathe after using the inhaler. I think I've been having trouble for a while. And my fevers are gone, so I feel like myself again.
Just in time to report to jury duty tomorrow. I have been "on call" the past two days, which was good, because there was no way I could go in, but I didn't want to postpone, because I don't want to be called again this year. But I have to go in tomorrow. I will go, and tell them I am sick, and they will excuse me. What can go wrong?
Nothing else to say about the last 5 days other than I watched a bunch of bad movies, and a very interesting documentary about the Cowsills. You might recall them from the late 60s-early 70's. They were the group that the Partridge Family tv series was based on. A bunch of enormously talented kids who were destroyed by a domineering father. Anyway, the youngest of them, Susan Cowsill, has continued to make music, and she is really really good.
Ok, I'm off to convalesce.

Date: 2014-06-11 07:38 am (UTC)The Cowsills! I still have a couple of their 45s. I knew a bit about them and the tragedies among the siblings. I knew Susan was still working and I think John also.

Susan Dey who played in the Partridge family tv series grandmother lived near my grandmother in Mountainville, NY. As a kid I thought that was great and was hoping I would see her if she was visiting her grandmother while I was visiting mine.

Date: 2014-06-11 11:37 pm (UTC)I also always, always get the flu shot, and haven't had it in years. My doctor said the fact that I did get the shot, plus the Tamiflu I took as soon as it seemed like flu, probably lessened the symptoms and shortened the period I was sick. Still, ugh.

Date: 2014-06-13 02:23 am (UTC)(b) I don't know much about Susan Cowsill, but I listen to quite a bit of a New Orleans folk singer named Paul Sanchez (see user photo). He and Susan do shows together from time to time.
