One of the first pictures I took with my Canon. I was driving down to my mom's at the end of April. As I went over the Tehachapi Pass, I saw that the hillsides were covered with wildflowers. It was spectacular! I said to myself, "I wish I had a camera". When I got there, I bought a camera and took the picture on my way home.

It was two weeks later that Arlina was diagnosed, and photography became a saving grace for me.

flower
From a visit to the Sacramento City Cemetery. Lots of good photo subjects there. And such a peaceful place.

Point Reyes Face
Point Reyes California--graffiti on a wall. Turned out to be the remnants of a spontaneous anti-war statement by local artists.

grandpa painting
The first of a series I took of the morning light shining in. The painting was done by my grandfather in 1925. He would be happy that I have finally found an artistic outlet.

beeflower
I did a lot of bee and flower pictures in the spring. This one is my favorite. The bee was huge!

orange
I never posted this one, but it's one of my favorites.

BWcandyd
My niece at Point Reyes on a windy day. Got a lot of good shots that day.

golden gate sunrise
Taken from the back of a fishing boat as the sun came up. I caught 7 fish.

waterrose
An alternate version of one that I took at the State Capital the day before Arnold's inauguration. A 13 15 year-old reader noted that the shot I posted was "cliche". She was so right!

heceta lighthouse
Heceta Head Lighthouse keeper's house. One of the places we stayed on our trip up the coast.

flying pig
One of the "pig journal" series from my pig collection.

car full of clouds
Taken in the parking lot at work.

birthday
Taken in Nevada City on my birthday. This one was posted in Arlina's journal.

wow. that shot of the lighthouse keeper's house is incredible. i've seen about half of these in your journal already, but they're all worthy of praise. i guess they probably should be, considering they're your favorites from this year.

I loved taking that lighthouse shot--it was cold, but I was right above the ocean, and I could hear the waves crashing below.

i like these very much! the one of the hillside flowers has the most beautiful blue in it, and the lighthouse keeper's house is ravishing against that moon. wow!

The flowers were such a deep blue--it looked as if the hillsides had been painted.

Reading this reminded me of my dream last light--trying to take a picture of a giant spider! I hate spiders!

And in last night's dream I worked in an enormous hospital for people and animals. My duty largely consisted of schlepping stuff around the perimeter stairs made of marble; the sunlight came in and lit the steps in the most interesting ways. I really wanted a camera!

The first picture, the one of the wildflowers looks like it could be a puzzle. Believe it or not, that is high praise from me. Sweetie, you continue to take my breath away.

I think I never posted the first one before now because the hills themselves were so beautiful, I just didn't feel like I captured it. I have heard that these flowers bloom like that only every four or five years, but I'm driving back down this May to see.
