The department head of the photography department had been sick. It turns out he had cancer, and he died on April 11.

He was my teacher's teacher, and kind of a mentor to him. In class last week, our teacher gave a slide show of some of Andy's work. One of the pictures that stood out to me was a very simple still-life of two spoons. I don't know what it was about that picture, but I have been thinking about it all week.

And so this is in homage to a guy I never met, the photography teacher I never had.

The shape of spoons is vaguely humanoid, the head and slim body. The two leaning on each other in a kind of communion is very familiar, compelling. I'm sorry for everyone's loss. *hugs*

I think that's why it works with spoons--forks would be something else entirely.

I don't know what it is about the picture, but I like it ...

You may not have had him as your teacher in the classroom, but it appears he is still your teacher.

Thanks for sharing the story behind the spoons. For me, they are a reminder of the Spoon Theory.

Spoon theory is a very touching story--and so true. Thank you for passing it on.

I am taking the intro to photography class at Sacramento City College--basic black and white darkroom stuff. I just love it.

I have a Nikon F3 that I use for most of my film stuff. It's the first Nikon I've ever had, and I really like it.

All of a sudden it seems like my whole life is becoming oriented towards photography and learning how to allow myself to be creative.
